On August 12, 2026, at its Head Office, Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank, ticker: VCB) held an online event to announce its Q2 and first-half 2026 business results.
The event was chaired by Mr. Do Viet Hung – Member of the Board of Directors, together with the Bank's Chief Economist and representatives from the Investor Relations team. The session drew the attention of more than 100 investors and international financial institutions, reflecting the market's strong focus on Vietnam's economic outlook and banking sector prospects for 2026 and the medium-to-long term.
According to data released by the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's economy delivered impressive growth in the first half of 2026, with GDP estimated to have grown 8.18% — the highest rate since 2011, driven by the processing and manufacturing sector, which remained the key growth engine. Inflation was well controlled, staying within the policy target range. Foreign investment inflows stood out as a particular bright spot, with registered FDI rising sharply year-on-year and disbursed FDI reaching its highest level in five years. However, pressure from the trade deficit and exchange-rate volatility remained factors to watch in the second half of the year. This favorable macro backdrop provided a strong foundation for the banking sector — and Vietcombank in particular — to sustain healthy credit growth while upholding discipline in asset quality management.
Against this backdrop, VCB delivered another strong set of results. VCB recorded positive business results and remained the largest contributor to the State budget. This result brought VCB to more than 63% completion of its full-year profit plan. In terms of scale, total assets exceeded VND 2.6 quadrillion, up 8.8% since the start of the year; customer loans reached over VND 1.76 quadrillion; and customer deposits reached approximately VND 1.73 quadrillion, with a CASA ratio of around 32%. Asset quality remained tightly managed, with the NPL ratio held at 0.98%, keeping VCB in the industry's leading position on asset quality.
Beyond its financial results, VCB continued to affirm its leadership in digital transformation and its role in key national initiatives — notably becoming the first bank in Vietnam to launch cross-border QR payments via Alipay+ across more than 60 countries and territories, alongside arranging financing for strategic national infrastructure projects.
Sharing the outlook for the second half of 2026, VCB's Board of Management stated that despite market volatility, the Bank continues to maintain the targets approved by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting. In terms of growth, VCB continues to target credit growth at 13%, while deposit growth will be managed appropriately to ensure liquidity while optimizing net interest margin. In terms of asset quality, the Bank maintains its target of keeping the NPL ratio below 1.5%, with actual performance expected to remain around 1%, consistent with 2025. In terms of profit, VCB targets growth exceeding the plan, provided market conditions remain favorable.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Do Viet Hung thanked investors and analysts for their continued engagement and for the questions raised during the session, emphasizing that their feedback plays an important role in helping VCB further strengthen its governance and information transparency. With a solid financial foundation and positive results in the first half of the year, VCB remains committed to sustainable growth, disciplined asset quality management, and continued alignment with Vietnam's national development priorities through the second half of 2026. The Bank reaffirms its commitment to transparent, timely disclosure in full compliance with applicable laws, thereby reinforcing trust and continuing to stand alongside its shareholders on the journey toward sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
