On the morning of 1 October 2026, Vietcombank participated in a study visit showcasing cashless payments and biometric verification in public transport at Cat Linh Metro Station in Hanoi. Held as part of the Mobility Payments Asia Pacific 2026 forum (MPAP2026), the event featured an introduction to the Vietcombank Visa Hanoi Metro - MeGO card and live payment demonstrations using both physical and virtual cards.
Jointly organised by Hanoi Metro, Visa and APSCA, the programme brought together Vietnamese and international delegates, including representatives of urban transport operators from Jakarta (Indonesia), Osaka (Japan) and South Korea. The study visit on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh – Ha Dong) provided a practical demonstration of the forum’s theme of integrating transport, open payments and digital identity.
At the event, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh, Deputy Director of Vietcombank’s Ba Dinh Branch, introduced the Vietcombank Visa Hanoi Metro - MeGO card and gave a live demonstration of payments using both physical and virtual cards.
The demonstration showed delegates how bank cards and mobile devices can be used to pay fares, providing a clearer understanding of how cashless payments can support everyday travel.

Alongside its payment features, Vietcombank highlighted the MeGO card’s carbon footprint measurement capability, which helps customers understand the environmental impact of their spending. This feature reflects an approach that combines payment technology with services supporting greener lifestyles and sustainable mobility.
During the programme, delegates explored Hanoi Metro’s integrated payment acceptance system, which supports chip-based citizen ID cards, biometric verification, QR codes, NFC technology and EMV-compliant contactless bank cards. Multi-format readers and AI-enabled cameras at fare gates help match identity data, facilitating payments and verifying eligibility for concessionary fares.
The programme also enabled delegates to discuss system implementation and operation with Hanoi Metro’s leadership and technology partner, as well as the benefits for passenger experience and management. Connecting open payments with digital identity was presented as an approach to improving service delivery in urban public transport.
By introducing and demonstrating the MeGO card at MPAP2026, Vietcombank shared a practical application of its payment product in public transport, while continuing to work with partners to promote cashless payments and develop services that meet customers’ mobility needs.
